Prostheticare by Emma M.

Welcome to Project Prostheticare!

Hi, my name is Emma Malik, and I’m a junior in high school. Outside of class, I love to cheer and dance as it has been a big part of my life. But with those passions have come injuries. Most recently, I hurt my shoulder and had to wear a sling. It irritated my skin and made staying clean difficult. As someone who wanted to get back to doing what I love, this was frustrating and discouraging.

That experience stuck with me, not just because of the pain, but because the very thing that was supposed to help me ended up creating new issues.  As someone who enjoys solving challenges, I couldn’t stop thinking about how it could be better.

I’ve always enjoyed helping people, and over time, I realized I wanted to be involved in healthcare. After my injury, I started thinking about how I could make a meaningful impact.

3D-Printed Prosthetics ...

Through research, I learned that many traditional arm prosthetics are expensive and uncomfortable. I wanted to change that. To solve this, I will design a 3D-printed alternative that’s more affordable, with a soft, removable liner that can be washed regularly to keep the prosthetic clean and comfortable. The goal is to create a prosthetic that promotes better hygiene, helping patients feel healthier and comfortable.

On this site, I will document my journey as I build a cheaper more comfortable alternative prosthetics.
